Green Screen on imovie!

We found this video teaching us how to use green screen on imovie. We played around briefly with trying to use green screen but we have decided it is not a good feature to use in our film trailer.

More imovie research

This video taught us once again how to use the picture in picture effect. This Video also taught us how to stabilize our footage so if we had and jerky footage we could make it move a little less. This is a feature we have used in our trailer.

imovie research

This video taught us how to use picture in picture effect on imovie and we later tried this out with some of our footage but have decided against using it for the meantime.

Monarchy - The phoenix alive

This music video is by the same band as before but the beginning of the video (first min) is very inspirational. There are many close-up shots which don't reveal too much about what the person in the video looks like. These types of shots would be very useful for our trailer as we can use them when showing shots of the villain, so as not to give too much away about who the villain may be.

Monarchy - Love get out of my way

This is a music video that we felt in various parts was inspirational for lighting techniques. Specifically the beginning the just the one figure under the spotlight and then the other four figures appear. This could look quite effective in our film trailer. The end shot is effective too as the light fades and the figures fade into the background.

Camera Angles

This is a video we found on youtube that we thought has interesting camera angles that could influence our film trailer. The majority of camera angles are close-ups and some of them distorted so the image in unclear this is an idea that would defiantly work well in our trailer.

The Usual suspects

The usual suspects trailer
  • Voice over tells the story
  • The first sentence gives away the narrative of the film "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled, was convincing the world he didn't exist.
  • The first two shots fade into one another
  • The first shot shows fire, reflecting the danger that the audience will expect to see in the film. The fire is also started by a cigarette, and the audience will have assumptions that it was a man smoking the cigarette, and cigarettes are often linked to gangsters, therefore setting the genre of the film. This shot is repeated at the end for emphasis
  • The second shot we are produced with is of some criminals in a line up and the audience now know who the main characters are.
  •  Throughout the trailer there are frequent shots of violence and death, the audience then assume that the characters they were introduced to at the beginning of the trailer are responsible for these crimes.
  • The audience is also introduced to an officer, we know this by him costume and the voice over.
  • The audience is aware that the police are trying to find  the suspects from the begging and there is a sense of a race against time between the suspects and the police.
  • It is also made clear that both the police and the suspects are looking for the same man who is thought to be very dangerous
  • Prominent colours are red and blue
  • Camera angles are mainly mid-shots and close-ups
  • The lighting throughout the trailer is fairly low key.
  • Theatrical trailer-gives away most of the plot but not the twist.
  • Slow editing at the beginning, speeds near the middle, slows and speeds towards the end.
  • Sound bridges - vocal

How to video - make up

This video is the one we used as main inspiration as the products used in the video are ones that we can get hold of easily and use on a low budget.

This video shows us how to make fake wounds if we prehaps had more professional products. This video produces a very realistic wound however we do not have the products used in the video but we have taken ideas from it.

Se7en

The beginning of this film is great inspiration for our trailer.
Particularly the close up images and the fact that a journal is kept with all the details in it.
You don't see the person making the journal so not too much is given away.
*Black and white photographs of he crime scene
*UV light for fingerprints creates a blue tint
*Grey and green are prominent colours
*Tree shaped air fresheners hung from the ceiling to disguise the smell?
*Police officers not dressed in uniform but suits
*Enemy shown out of focus
*Dark room with red light.
*Pictures of dead bodies being developed
*Props - torches, guns, plastic bags for evidence, tape recorder
*Close-ups

Lighting and Camera Angles

Plan B
There are interesting aspects in this video that could work well in our teaser trailer.
The lighting for example creates shadows and is very dark. Grey is a prominent colour emphasising the darkness. The focus is also rather interesting in this video because as the camera angle tends to become a close up on Plan B in his cell, the camera goes slightly out of focus and this is one of the things I noticed in psychological horror/thriller films. This means the audience can't see clearly what is happening so they must use their imagination. There are also camera angles used in this video that could work well in our trailer, for example the close up of someones feet as they leave bloody footprints.
                                                           Fenech Soler
The lighting at the beginning of this video resembles the type of lighting technique we may use in our trailer. The lighting once again casts shadows. Because the light is fairly low key, the audience cannot see what is in the background, this could work to our advantage in a trailer. The lighting is not steady, and this can make the audience feel uneasy if shown with the right image.

Tinie Tempah - Frisky

We saw this music video and noticed it was filmed in an underground cellar type place. We felt this video was inspirational because of the lighting techniques used, with the use of the colour blue which is frequently features in psychological thriller movies, and how bodies are silhouetted. The use of torch light in this video was very interesting too as it created great shadow and contrast between light and dark.
